Study Coordinator and Grant Contractor- Diversify Dietetics (Remote)

We are seeking a contractor for a two-year, part-time contract to support two initiatives at Diversify Dietetics: a study coordinator for a Research Mentorship Network collaboration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Diversify Dietetics HBCI/HSI/PBI Recruitment Program Funding. 


Contract Focus Area #1: Research Mentor Network (Primary focus for contract)


Project Background: 

Diversify Dietetics (DD) is collaborating with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) and other experts in the Supporting Diversity in Research Mentorship Network Project. The focus of this project is to conduct a pilot research study on the implementation and evaluation of a mentorship program for undergraduate students. The goal of this project is to launch a research mentorship network specifically to support racially/ethnically diverse undergraduate nutrition and dietetics students interested in research. 


Specifically, the project will address the following aims:

  1. To evaluate the feasibility of a research mentorship network within a racially/ethnically diverse group of nutrition and dietetic undergraduate students

  2. To determine the barriers and facilitators of the research mentoring network program

  3. To evaluate how a research mentorship network program will enhance:

    1. Knowledge, self-efficacy, and sense-of belonging in undergraduate students, and

    2. Intercultural development, and mentorship professional development in mentors.

The contractor will serve as the study lead for the project with the study team composed of Academy staff, DD staff, and other potential researchers as appropriate. DD and Academy staff will work closely with the contractor in the planning, implementation, and dissemination of the research project

The Academy’s research team will convene appropriate stakeholders to inform the pilot project design and to develop/refine resources and infrastructure needed for the mentorship network before the program launch. This includes convening a community advisory group (CAB) to provide hands-on guidance throughout the development process. The study planning and implementation will be done by the research team, led by a study coordinator, with support from the CAB. Other feedback can be gathered through a “soft launch” of resources via focus groups or interviews as appropriate.

The initial phase of the project will include resource and training development, protocol and study collection tool development, and logistics and program infrastructure development. Once the program structure has been finalized and institutional review board (IRB) approval has been granted, mentors and mentees will be recruited (10-15 mentors and mentees; n=20-30) from all over the U.S. to participate in the mentorship network program which will last 8 months. Data will be collected based on outcomes related to the study aims and ata will then be analyzed and disseminated as appropriate.

Research Mentor Network Program Deliverables: 

  • Lead study planning process including participating in the protocol development, study trainings, data collection tools, recruitment materials, and data analysis plan.

  • Collect resource/infrastructure feedback from stakeholders through interviews/focus groups as appropriate

  • Work with community advisory board (CAB) assembled as appropriate to provide project guidance and coordinate CAB meetings and communication.

  • Work with Academy and Diversify Dietetics’ research team to support project development, implementation, data analysis, and dissemination. This includes regular communication with the study team.

  • Lead study coordination for a project including recruitment and project implementation.

  • Lead submission to the institutional review board (IRB) including initial submission and modifications as appropriate.

  • Lead manuscript development with outcomes from pilot project submitted to a peer-reviewed journal.

  • Participate in additional dissemination of study results as appropriate including key learnings and outcomes

Contract Focus Area #2: Diversify Dietetics HBCU/PBI/HSI Recruitment Program Support

Project Background

The number of students pursuing dietetics as an educational pathway had declined, with a sharp decrease in the 2021-22 academic year. This project aims to identify and secure funding to support the formalization of a recruitment program that will support faculty and students at HBCUs, HSIs, and PBIs with dietetics programs and appropriate feeder programs 

Specifically the project will focus on the following aims: 

  1. Identify funding sources to support a recruitment and retention program of nutrition programs at HBCUs, HSIs, and PBIs with dietetics programs or appropriate feeder programs.

Program Data Analysis Deliverables:

  • Identify funding sources and maintain a database of funding for healthcare workforce development, underrepresented minority student support, and health equity programming.

 

  • Assist DD staff in pursuing funding opportunities, writing and/or editing grant proposal narratives, timelines and budgets. Build relationships with educational institution partners and ensure proposals encompass the needs of those partners and the objectives of DD.

Contractor Timeline: 2-year, part-time (0.5 FTE/ 20 hours per week) starting April/May 2024 until April/May 2026. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in a nutrition or nutrition related field

  • Previous experience working with racially and ethnically diverse populations, specifically students

  • 5+ years experience conducting research projects including experience with IRB, recruitment, study management, data analysis, data visualization, dissemination

  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to craft engaging narratives and compelling content tailored to different audiences

  • Experience researching and writing grant proposal for program funding

  • Faculty or staff appointment at a University (preferred)

  • Previous experience with mentorship or student support programs (preferred)

  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

  • Availability and commitment to the contract requirements position, beginning mid-late May 2024 for the length of two years

  • $39,000 per contract year, paid in monthly installments of $3,250
