State of the DD Community

This past spring. we asked you, our DD Community, to tell us what you needed to THRIVE in the field of nutrition.

We also asked ourselves- At five years old, where does DD fit into the food, nutrition and dietetics space? How are we continuing to shake up the status quo?

Through a series of surveys and focus groups with our stakeholders, we gathered and analyzed information to help us answer those critical questions.

In this rapidly changing world of nutrition and dietetics, what does the DD Community want and need to flourish, and how can we support it? Join us for this event to hear from our cofounders, Deanna Lewis and Tamara Melton, what YOU told us, and be the first to see our new Strategic Plan for 2023-2026!

Food Insecurity: Careers & Cultural Considerations

Time for our next webinar!

Food Insecurity.png

"Food Insecurity- Careers and Cultural Considerations"

The pandemic showed that no matter where you work as an RD, you may find that part of your work includes supporting clients, patients, and students who are food insecure. As with all other areas of practice, cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity are critical when working with food insecurity communities.

Join us for a panel discussion with three DD community members: Miram Manboard, Sarah Crulcich, MPH, RD, LD and Winona Bynum, RDN, PMP. These professionals are working hard to provide support to diverse communities who are or may be at risk of becoming food insecure.

We will first discuss how their career pathways led them to work in food insecurity. We will then dive into an enlightening and honest discussion of why culture needs to always be a consideration when developing programming for food banks or other donation partners. We will discuss how college pantries are so important to supporting students and their families. Our panelists will also explore why food banking is a short-term solution, and what RDs can do to support more sustainable solutions for food-insecure communities. This interactive panel will allow attendees plenty of time to ask questions of our panelists.

Thursday, August 5th from 7-8:30 pm EST | 1.5 CPEUs pending | Free to all DD Members, $15 for all other attendees

Register HERE.

*If you’re a DD member, check the forum for more information on how to access the event.

Why We Created This Summit

The Diversify Dietetics Community is full of RDs and RDs to Be of Color who are extremely talented, with an unmatched work ethic and creativity. You are ideal nutrition entrepreneurs. That is, until now!

If you’re an RD or RD to Be of Color who wants to start or grow your nutrition business- this Summit was literally created for you! We believe that teaching you critical entrepreneurship skills will allow you to fill the need for a diverse nutrition expert in your community and specialty area. Whether you want to work as a consultant with food brands, start your own private practice, or break into media work- we’ve got you covered!

And we have that added bonus: You will be surrounded by the DD Community for the entire event.

You’ll be free to learn and explore in a setting that is supportive, safe, and inspirational. You'll create a network of colleagues who will be your accountability partners for years to come- partners who share your uniqueness as an RD of Color. Our events are truly like no others in the dietetics community!
