Spring 2022 cohort Information
We are excited to have you participating in our third DAS Program cohort! This program is made possible thanks to the financial support of our donors, and by the generous volunteers who give their time and expertise. These volunteers have done the work and have committed to providing culturally-sensitive support to you as applicants. We appreciate you, DAS Program Volunteers!
Applicants: your acceptance to a dietetic internship that fits your goals, lifestyle and budget is very important to us. Please know that we have created this program to support you as fully as possible. Our consultants and volunteers are committed to helping you be as fully prepared to submit a strong application. We only ask that you try your best, let us know if you’re struggling at all, and stay committed to the process. This will be a rigorous next few months, but we’ll get through this! And it’ll be fun and relaxed- your with your DD Fam!

DAS Program Schedule Breakdown
The DAS Program is broken down into two components:
Component 1: One-on-one support with your DAS Program Volunteer:
Each applicant will be paired with a DAS Program volunteer who will provide support with
Navigating the DICAS website
Getting organized for successful application
Personal statement and resume review and feedback
Assessing transcript to determine program eligibility
Virtual Interview preparation
Provide guidance on improving GPA
Identifying appropriate financial resources to fund their DI
Please work directly with your DAS Program Volunteer to determine a mutual schedule for meetings as you move along in your DICAS application process.

Component 2: Virtual Workshop Series
This interactive webinar series has been specifically developed for the Diversify Dietetics DAS program. The sessions, facilitated by Rebecca Valdez, and supported by DAS Program Volunteer facilitators, will guide applicants through a process to explore their value/(s), frame their unique experiences, and craft narratives that fully respond to DICAS prompts and help the application stand out from the crowd.
Over the course of 6 weeks, students will participate in interactive, sequential virtual workshops on Zoom that prepare attendees to brainstorm, outline, draft and revise their personal statements.

Workshop 1: Unlocking Your Personal Statement Purpose- Tuesday, November 2, 2022 6-7:15pm EST, OPTIONAL Advising Session- Which Programs Should I Apply To 7:15 - 8:00pm EST- (Zoom Meeting Link)
Unlocking Your Personal Statement Workbook
Homework (Due November 15th) - Complete the workbook activities including the empowerment activity and 'why nutrition?' activity. Submit using this link.

Homework (Due December 9th): Research the programs you want to apply to. Write down a list of qualities they seem to emphasize that you may consider exemplifying in your statement.
Repeat exercises 2-3 in workbook until you have several stories/experiences to choose from for each program you plan to apply (some may use the same experience, but reframed differently)

Homework: Complete a draft of your PS! Find at least 1 person to read your statement and answer what they think the theme/purpose(s) for your PS.

Q: When do we get matched with our program volunteer
A: We will send out emails matching you with a volunteer next week.
Q: What is the purpose of the program volunteer?
A: Read all about the role of our program volunteers here. If you feel that you do not need this type of support that is fine by us! Just let us know.
Q: When are 1-1 sessions to review my personal statement and how do I sign up for one?
A: 1-1 sessions will start Decemebr 13th and are by appointment only. We will provide a sign up link in a future email. Note: You must have completed all assignments before signing up for a 1-1 session.
Q: What if the program I'm applying for has a deadline in December?
A: If you have an early submission deadline please email us letting us know the deadline date ASAP - rd2be@diversifydietetics.org
Q: Is it ok if I have to miss a workshop?
A: Yes, we completely understand if you have to miss a workshop for whatever reason. We strongly recommend that you watch the recording.
