Student & Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellbeing, connection and belonging, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.
As part of SCL, Cornell Dining is comprised of more than 30 on-campus eateries, including multiple all-access dining rooms, cafés, coffee shops, food courts, retail convenience stores, concession stands, a restaurant, and catering services. From crafting holiday-themed meals to chef surprises and dining room special events, the Cornell Dining team of more than 400 skilled culinarians and front-line associates and 600 student employees work hard every day to offer a variety of fresh and healthy food from all over the world. Cornell Dining’s mission is a commitment to Nourishing the Future: both for our guests and for our team. This is accomplished with a team-oriented and customer service mindset, and an emphasis on training, education, professional development, and career path opportunities for our entire organization.
The Nutrition Department is a subset of the Cornell Dining Organizational Excellence team. This team is responsible for providing support and framework within the culinary programming related to nutrition, food allergies, and other dietary requirements. The department also provides nutrition outreach within the Cornell Dining Community. We uphold and foster the values, mission and priorities of Cornell Dining.
As part of Cornell Dining’s mission to Nourish the Future, the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) provides nutrition expertise and leadership to support safe, inclusive, and equitable dining experiences for students. The RDN provides individualized nutrition support for students with medically necessary dietary needs, including food allergies, intolerances, and therapeutic diets, while advancing nutrition education, regulatory compliance, data management, and dining programs that promote student health and well-being. In coordination with Student Disability Services and the INDIGO Accommodation Kitchen culinary team, the RDN assesses dietary needs, coordinates appropriate dining accommodations, and supports students and Dining staff throughout the accommodation process.
The RDN also plays a critical role in the accuracy, integrity and ongoing maintenance of nutrition, ingredient and allergen data within Cornell Dining’s Menu Management System. Through effective data stewardship, the RDN ensures students have safe and informed access to accurate nutrition information to support safe and informed meal choices. In addition, the RDN develops and implements nutrition education, outreach, training, and wellness initiatives that support the broader student population. As a subject matter expert in nutrition, medically necessary diets, and dietary accommodations, the RDN collaborates across Cornell Dining and the University community to promote safe, appropriate, nutritious, and inclusive dining options.
