School Breakfast Senior Manager, Center for Best Practice - Share Our Strength (Washington, DC)

The Senior Manager will be responsible for gathering lessons learned, identifying and uplifting best and promising practices, and providing technical assistance related to expanding access to and participation in the School Breakfast Program. This individual will help support the strategic direction of the organization’s school breakfast work, including helping to develop and implement a plan to scale the adoption of effective breakfast models across the country. The Senior Manager will also be primarily responsible for creating resources (e.g., toolkits, 1-pagers, case studies), hosting webinars, and leading training on the topic of school breakfast. Additionally, they will provide technical assistance and support to colleagues, school and school nutrition staff, partners, and state agency staff.
This position requires a high-performing individual capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, collaborative organization. The ideal candidate is a critical and strategic thinker, has strong subject matter expertise and outstanding interpersonal skills, and is proactive, ambitious, and organized.
This position is preferably based in Washington, D.C. (Hybrid- 2 days per week); but could be fully remote for the right candidate living outside of the DC area 30 miles or more. The position offers a salary range of $81k to $87k. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide subject matter expertise related to the federal School Breakfast Program.
Lead the conception, development, and dissemination of resources to facilitate the sharing of best practices and skill-building on school breakfast. This may include, but is not limited to, toolkits, implementation guides, case studies, and webinars.
Provide strategic guidance, thought partnership, and technical assistance to No Kid Hungry state campaigns working to expand access to school breakfast. This may include participating in planning meetings, leading training, and joining partner calls.
Develop and implement strategies and tactics to elevate No Kid Hungry as a national leader on school breakfast.
Gather learnings from the field, including insight from school nutrition staff, partners, and state agency staff, to identify best and promising practices for expanding program access and increasing participation.
Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensure this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.
Stay current on the national school breakfast landscape and identify emerging trends, opportunities, and threats in the school meals landscape that may impact school breakfast, with a specific focus on factors that may affect our core strategies and intended impact.
Contribute to the Center for Best Practices’ website, newsletter, and other communication tools. This includes being the content lead for Breakfast Bites, our breakfast-specific monthly newsletter, and maintaining the content on the school breakfast pages on the CBP website.
Travel up to 10%.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition education, dietetics, public policy, or related field preferred but not required.
At least 5-7 years of work experience, with a focus on child hunger and federally-funded child nutrition programs, with strongly preferred subject matter expertise related to the School Breakfast Program.
Experience providing high-quality education and training, technical assistance, strategic planning, or consulting services to non-profit organizations, child nutrition program staff, state agencies, and/or schools/districts.
Excellent facilitation, listening, and communication skills (verbal and written), including experience presenting to high-level audiences and the ability to communicate complex or technical information in an easy-to-understand way.
Eagerness to collaborate and demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fluid environment, lead projects (short- and long-term), meet multiple concurrent deadlines, and organize time and priorities.
Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships across stakeholder groups, including non-profit organizations, government agencies, and schools/districts.
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
