DD Summit 2025 Session: The Power of Culture in Gut Health: Centering Mexican-American Foods in Disorders of Gut-Brain Interactions (DGBIs
Managing disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBIs) such as IBS and functional dyspepsia is challenging due to the complexity of symptoms, the gut-brain connection, and the lack of a one-size-fits-all treatment approach. Diet plays a crucial role in symptom management, yet many conventional dietary interventions rely on elimination diets that may unnecessarily restrict culturally significant foods. While elimination diets may provide short-term relief for some, they often lack strong evidence and can exclude key anti-inflammatory, fiber-rich, and prebiotic foods that support gut health.
In this session, we will explore how traditional Mexican-American foods can play a central role in supporting gut health. Attendees will learn how to incorporate culturally relevant, evidence-based nutrition strategies into their practice to empower clients with DGBIs. By centering culture, RDs can move beyond diet restrictions and create personalized care plans that honor traditions while addressing symptoms.
CEUs are only provided on the full DD Summit recording package. Learn more here.
