DD Summit 2025 Session: Empowering Women of Color with PCOS: Culturally Sensitive Approaches to Nutrition and Lifestyle for Hormonal Balance
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal disorder that disproportionately affects women of color. This presentation will explore the multifaceted impact of PCOS, barriers to diagnosis and care, and strategies to empower clients.
PCOS affects up to 10% of women of reproductive age, with even higher rates among women of color. Many women remain undiagnosed or underserved in their care. PCOS is closely linked to higher rates of obesity, insulin resistance, mood disorders, cardiovascular disease, endometrial cancer, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, necessitating comprehensive and sensitive healthcare management.
This presentation aims to equip dietitians with the knowledge and tools necessary to address these disparities and support women of color in managing PCOS effectively. Key topics will include PCOS diagnosis, symptoms, traditional management, culturally competent lifestyle recommendations, and strategies to empower patients using a gentle, weight-neutral approach.
CEUs are only provided on the full DD Summit recording package. Learn more here.
