Founding Executive Director, Feed the Truth
About Feed the Truth:
Feed the Truth aims to advance truth, transparency, and integrity to support a healthy, equitable, and sustainable food system.
With a U.S. focus and a global perspective, Feed the Truth will:
Convene experts and stakeholders to identify and advance strategies;
Translate and disseminate evidence-based information to support informed decision-making by all;
Advocate for policy, systems, and environmental changes;
Facilitate, catalyze, and support the efforts of others; and
Develop resources and initiatives to reach its goals.
Feed the Truth is a wholly independent 501(c)(3). It was launched and is funded by Daniel Lubetzky, the Founder and CEO of KIND Healthy Snacks (KIND). The organization has a 10-year, $25 million commitment and is now seeking its Founding Executive Director. In order to ensure complete independence, KIND and Lubetzky will not be involved in the organization in any way.
Feed the Truth’s programmatic activities and strategic priorities will be determined by the Board of Directors, in collaboration with the Executive Director. The mission of Feed the Truth has resonated with a wide range of leaders in the food space, leading to an excellent and engaged Board that includes Mara Fleishman, Tracy Fox, Jim Krieger (Board Chair), Dariush Mozaffarian, Michael Roberts and Angie Tagtow.
Feed the Truth Board Chair Jim Krieger envisions the Executive Director will bring “an entrepreneurial drive and commitment to support a new and dynamic organization. They must have a passion and commitment to advancing the mission of Feed the Truth and advancing health equity, and be skilled in building a strong team, communication, research, partnerships, and advocacy.”
The location of the position is to be determined by the candidate and Board.
The Executive Director of Feed the Truth will report to the Board. S/he will help successfully launch and grow the organization.
On a fundamental level, the Executive Director will have the following responsibilities:
Work in partnership with the Board of Directors to develop and articulate strategies which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress;
Support and collaborate with a strong, highly engaged Board to develop and advance Feed the Truth’s strategic priorities;
Develop the values of Feed the Truth and promote a culture reflective of those values;
Administer all day-to-day operations of Feed the Truth, including building, leading, and managing a small team;
Provide oversight and responsibility for Feed the Truth’s financial position and outlook;
Represent Feed the Truth as an articulate, inspiring and knowledgeable public spokesperson and ambassador with diverse audiences; and
Recruit experts, colleagues, and funders to support the Feed the Truth mission; develop and foster strategic relationships with high-level partners.
The ideal candidate will have the following personal competencies, qualities and characteristics:
A Passion for the Mission
The Executive Director must be passionate and knowledgeable about issues related to today’s food system and the overall mission of Feed the Truth. S/he must appreciate the importance of science-based information and decision-making across food system stakeholders and have a strong interest in ensuring that policy makers, professionals, and consumers have access to the accurate, up-to-date information required to make healthy, informed choices about food. The Executive Director will come to Feed the Truth with a deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and will be passionate and energized by the opportunity to impact all communities, including those disproportionately impacted by food-related issues.
Ambassador for Feed the Truth
The Executive Director will be a high-energy, charismatic leader who will serve as an ‘Ambassador’ for Feed the Truth. As the face of the organization, s/he will inspire support from key partners in order to maximize the impact of Feed the Truth. S/he will have an interest in establishing and developing strategic external relationships that will benefit Feed the Truth; serving as an advocate to encourage the development of new opportunities, programs, and products for Feed the Truth. S/he will have executive and appealing, mission-driven presence and can articulate and convey Feed the Truth’s mission and priorities to a range of external stakeholders to inspire action.
The Executive Director must have an entrepreneurial ambition and approach. S/he will have demonstrated experience leading an initiative or organization. S/he must be hands-on, agile and versatile. S/he will be solutions-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset. S/he will have a track record of motivating and inspiring others to achieve impact through creativity and teamwork and of leveraging individual strengths to meet organizational goals.
